President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a set of strategic appointments aimed at enhancing the governance and operational efficiency of the River Basin Development Authorities, integral entities within the Federal Ministry of Water Resources. These appointments are designed to reinforce the frameworks for sustainable water resource management and to optimize the authorities’ capacity to execute development initiatives.

These appointments come as part of a broader initiative to enhance water resource management and support rural development across Nigeria. At the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, located in Abeokuta, Sowade Oluwakayode Adebayo has taken on the role of Executive Director of Engineering Services. Adebayo’s appointment follows the tenure of Engr. Julius Oloro, under whom significant projects were initiated to improve irrigation and water supply systems in the region. Chucks Erhire has been appointed as the Executive Director of Engineering Services at the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, taking over from Dr. Austin Nonyelim Izagbo. Erhire brings a wealth of experience in project management and environmental engineering, which will be vital as the authority continues to address the challenges of flooding and ecological degradation in the Niger Delta.

Sunday Kubba Hassan has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Planning at the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority. He takes over from Chief Chris Tarka, who has retired after many years of dedicated work. Hassan’s background in planning and development will be important as the authority aims to manage water resources sustainably and support agricultural growth in the region. Engr. Okibe Timothy will continue in his role as the Executive Director of Engineering, helping to improve water infrastructure through various ongoing and future projects. In his announcement, President Tinubu highlighted the need for these leaders to maintain strong values and high performance. He encouraged them to focus on better water management and to develop programs that improve life in rural areas, ensuring that these resources are used wisely for the benefit of Nigerians.
