Incidents occurred during the second half of the Premier League match at Old Trafford last September.
Tottenham has been fined £75,000 after homophobic chants were reported from a portion of their fans during last year’s Premier League match against Manchester United.
The Football Association (FA) has charged Tottenham Hotspur for violating FA Rule E21 on two occasions, which relates to misconduct regarding crowd control during their 3-0 victory at Old Trafford on 29 September 2024. It was alleged that they “did not ensure that their audience and/or supporters (including supporters/fans) behaved in a proper manner and refrained from using language or engaging in conduct that is inappropriate, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting, whether directly or indirectly related to sexual orientation.”
Both incidents occurred in the second half of the game, during the 49th and 79th minutes.
Tottenham accepted both charges and initially faced a fine of £150,000, along with a warning and an action plan from an independent regulatory commission; however, this fine was later reduced to £75,000 after an appeal. Spurs quickly condemned the homophobic chants at Old Trafford following the match in September, vowing to implement the strictest measures against anyone found to be involved.
The club has acknowledged the inappropriate homophobic chanting from some of our away fans at Old Trafford today,” they said in a statement.
The club is committed to collaborating closely with the Police and stewards to identify anyone who starts or takes part in the chanting. We will enforce the strictest measures possible in accordance with our Sanctions and Banning Policy.
