The United States Bureau of Counterterrorism has praised the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its unwavering dedication and substantial contributions to the battle against terrorism and counterinsurgency efforts in Nigeria. During a high-level meeting in Abuja, Jessica Long, the Acting Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the Bureau, expressed this commendation while leading a US delegation in discussions with the NAF.

This information was shared in a statement by Group Capt. Kabiru Ali, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, on Wednesday in Abuja. Long also recognized the Nigerian government and its military forces for their persistent commitment to fighting terrorism.

She praised the recent successes of the Nigerian military in tackling terrorist groups and highlighted their smart use of intelligence to deal with threats effectively. She mentioned that these efforts have helped secure important areas in Nigeria and have contributed to greater stability in the region. Long also reaffirmed the United States’ continued support for the Nigerian Air Force’s fight against terrorism, while stressing the importance of countries working together to address changing security challenges.

She underscored the necessity of advancing targeted lethality through precision operations to ensure that the NAF’s initiatives remain both effective and strategically significant. In response, AVM Ibikunle Daramola, the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, who welcomed the delegation, reiterated the NAF’s steadfast commitment to national security and the protection of civilians during military operations. Daramola emphasized the progress made within the NAF Civil-Military Relations Branch, particularly in building community trust and reducing collateral damage. He advocated for enhanced collaboration in areas such as specialized training and technology transfer to further bolster Nigeria’s counter-terrorism capabilities.
