Why The Cock is Not Married (2)

One day, an old man called him and asked him why he didn’t think of getting married. He answered the old man that in their village they don’t marry, that they don’t even think about it or consider it as a thing to be done. He said that in their village, their men are given the freedom to chase and catch any woman of their choice and catch fun and have pleasure with her at that moment and go. The old man was bewildered, but Cock went further, saying that there are two very important reasons for this: one is that in their place, they don’t live long — they usually die very young. The second reason being that their women are rated among the fastest and best runners in the world, and so it becomes a challenge to their men that they have to show their strength and agility in chasing and catching them to satisfy their desires. According to him, “if you are able to chase and catch any of our women that you like or desire, she automatically becomes your wife at that moment. You have the opportunity, that time, to enjoy her or take anything from her. Once she escapes from you or once you release her, she ceases to be your wife and can become another person’s wife the next moment.”
When the old man, in shock, asked him why they have such a barbaric tradition, he laughed and said that his people don’t see it as barbaric, it is only humans that see it as such; that it is their culture — just as humans have the culture of having to pay bride price before taking a woman as wife, or may be in other cases, have to receive and endure being lashed with the cane before taking a woman they love as wife. He went on saying that in their own case, the only price they have to pay is to run after the women they desire, and that they pay it every blessed day for any woman they see on the way that catches their attention. On the contrary, they don’t visit any deity to offer sacrifices, and they don’t have to kill anyone for love; they simply run, catch, connect, and go; that’s all.
When he asked the old man — who was visibly in wonder — why men in the human community don’t marry many wives as they used to do in those days, the old man told him not to worry, that it was a story for another day.
