A heartbreaking event has overshadowed the Benin City community as they grieve the death of a young woman, Osaro Festus, whose decayed body was discovered buried in a shallow grave close to the residence of a man she met online.
Osaro Festus, 21, reportedly traveled to meet a young man she reached out to on social media. After she did not return home from her visit for over two months, her friends and family submitted a missing persons report.
After weeks of searching and growing public worry, a vital lead emerged when residents near the suspect’s house notified the police about a strange smell and signs of disturbed soil. Upon investigation, authorities found the shallow grave containing the remains of Osaro Festus.
The preceding forensic tests confirmed that the body belongs to the missing young woman. The circumstances surrounding her death are still under investigation, but law enforcement has arrested the man she visited, who is now the primary suspect in what is being treated as a homicide.
