COAS pledges well-educated, future-ready Nigerian Army

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has affirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to developing a proficient workforce that is prepared for future challenges. This initiative aims to ensure that there are investments in educational programs and training designed to build a professionally competent and future-ready army.

Oluyede disclosed this during the 67th Passing Out Parade of the Nigeria Military School (NMS) in Zaria on Saturday.

As the Reviewing Officer and Special Guest of Honour at the event, he was represented by Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna.

He said: “In the Nigerian Army, we are supporting soldiers to continue their education in top civilian universities and colleges across the country, with former NMS graduates being some of the best recipients of this program.

“This program shows our commitment to building a well-educated, professionally skilled, and future-ready Nigerian Army.
“I encourage you, the graduating boys, to appreciate this amazing opportunity by dedicating yourselves to excellence and selfless service,” he emphasized.

He pointed out that the passing out parade officially welcomes the new graduates into the Nigerian Army family, to which they have willingly promised their service to their country.

Oluyede acknowledged that while support packages are available, challenges lie ahead, urging them to stay strong, as they have been given the necessary tools as junior leaders in the army.

The army chief mentioned that there is an opportunity for the graduating boys who want a military career to apply to the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA).

However, the COAS made it clear that the admission requirements for the NDA are clearly stated, emphasizing that such criteria apply to all Nigerians.

Oluyede delivered an inspiring message to the graduating boys, urging them to seize the moment and apply for opportunities ahead of them. With the unique edge gained from their rigorous military training and orientation at the NMS, they are well-positioned to excel.

He encouraged the passing-out boys to take full advantage of the welfare programs and career development initiatives provided by the Nigerian Army as they embark on their professional journeys.

“As your Chief of Army Staff, my Command Philosophy revolves around key pillars: Readiness, Operational Effectiveness, Sound Administration, and Strategic Collaboration with Stakeholders.

“Central to this philosophy is the empowering ‘Soldier First’ principle, which places the welfare and morale of our troops at the forefront of every decision we make,” Oluyede emphasized, igniting a sense of purpose among the attendees.

The event was a remarkable gathering highlighted by the presence of Maj.-Gen. Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, Commandant of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), along with esteemed traditional and religious leaders, and a host of distinguished dignitaries.
