World ‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌Standards Day: SON urges Nigerians to embrace clean, quality energy

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has urged Nigerians to embrace affordable, clean and quality energy to promote sustainable development and protect the environment.
The Director, Northwest Regional Operations of SON, Mr Adamu Saleh, made the call on Wednesday in Kaduna during a road walk marking the 2026 World Standards Day.
Saleh said the event was organised to sensitise the public to the importance of standardisation, quality assurance and the role of standards in improving people’s lives.
He said the celebration, held annually on Oct. 14, was an opportunity to educate stakeholders on the need to embrace standards in their daily activities.
According to him, this year’s theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World,” with a focus on Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), highlights the importance of affordable and clean energy.
He said SON aimed to ensure that the public understood its activities and the significance of standardisation and quality assurance in promoting safety and protecting consumers.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of SON, Kaduna State Office 1, Engr. Emmanuel Hussani, described energy as essential to human activities, including domestic, commercial and industrial operations.
Hussani said the focus on affordable and clean energy reflected its importance across various sectors, adding that energy sources included solar, wind and other forms of power.
He said SON was committed to ensuring that energy products available to consumers were not only affordable and environmentally friendly but also met the required quality and safety standards.
According to him, the organisation’s responsibility is to ensure that consumers obtain value for their money by using energy products that meet established standards.
“Our commitment is to ensure that whoever is using these energy products gets value for their money.
“The energy products must not only be affordable and clean but also be of good quality and safe for users and the environment,” he said.
Hussani urged Nigerians to patronise quality energy products and embrace cleaner energy sources to improve their quality of life while contributing to environmental sustainability.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2026 World Standards Day celebration was organised by the SON Northwest Regional Office, Kaduna, as part of efforts to promote public awareness of standardisation and quality assurance.
