The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, have been barred from holding elective congresses in the state by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, which is presided over by Justice G. V. Obomanu.

The restraining order against the APC and its national chairman, Ganduje, was contained in an order of temporary injunction given by the court yesterday in the petition No. PHCI3859/CS/2024, submitted by Okwu JoeBrown Ndiike, Peace Oganu, and Samuel Uchegbule.
Barr E. N. Ebete represented the applicants, who claimed that despite paying for forms, they were refused participation in the party’s nomination process.

APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and other party officials were instructed by the court to maintain the status quo while the move on notice was heard and decided, given the urgency of the situation.
The judge explicitly prohibited the APC from holding elected congresses without the claimants present on November 23 and 30, 2024.

According to the court, the party was not allowed to accept or inaugurate the victors of the November 16, 2024, congresses of the ward executive committees.

The judge postponed the action until December 3, 2024, for a Motion on Notice, following the issuance of the orders.
APC group in Rivers State led by Chief Tony Okocha, meanwhile, declared that the state’s congresses would go as scheduled.

Secretary of the Okocha-led Caretaker Committee of the party in the state, Chibuike Ikenga told newsmen that they are not aware of any Court order stopping them.

Ikenga also vowed that the party would appeal the Appeal Court judgment which nullified the Federal High Court ruling on the October 5th, 2024 local government elections in Rivers State
