Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has solicited the support of traditional rulers across the state for his re-election.

Oyebanji said their support would enable him the opportunity to execute more development projects for the state.

The governor spoke during the inauguration of the ultra-modern palace of the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole,on Monday in Ijero-Ekiti.

He described the facility as part of sustained efforts to modernise the traditional institution in the state.

Oyebanji was represented at the event by his deputy, Mrs Monisade Afuye.

The governor promised not to politicise the traditional institution and appealed to traditional rulers to bring their experience to bear and embrace peace in their domains during the forthcoming governorship election.

“The June 20 governorship election is another opportunity for the electorate to participate actively in the democratic process.

“We appeal to our people to be eager to participate as part of their sacred constitutional duty.

“We also appeal to our traditional rulers to ensure peace in their domains by counselling politicians and their supporters to play by the rules.

“We have no other state to run to except Ekiti, which we all regard as our Jerusalem,” he said.

He appreciated the meaningful contributions of the Ajero to the sustenance of the rich cultural history of the town.

Oba Adewole, while tracing the trajectory of the project which began 30 years ago, showered encomiums on the governor for intervening to ensure the speedy completion of the palace.

The traditional ruler said the governor’s financial contributions saved the situation, adding that the completion of the palace symbolises the resilience, commitment and industry for which the kingdom has long been known.

Oba Adewole predicted a landslide victory for the governor, saying he has performed excellently and commands a strong support base to secure a second term.
