The Okitipupa Local Government Council in Ondo has indefinitely halted all scavenging and scrap metal operations.

Mr. Andrew Ogunsakin, the council chairman, made this announcement during a press conference on Wednesday. He emphasized the need for local leaders and security teams to keep a close watch on scavengers and scrap metal workers.

This measure responds to the rising security issues associated with unregulated scavenging, often conducted by individuals wandering the area. He warned that continued activities could threaten public safety and essential infrastructure. The council has instructed security forces to rigorously enforce this ban, with serious penalties for any violators. Consequently, due to these pressing security concerns, all scavenging and scrap metal activities are suspended indefinitely in Okitipupa and its environs.

I have reached out to security teams and community leaders in our area to thoroughly monitor scavengers and scrap metal workers, aiming to restore order and ensure accountability.

Security operatives are expected to adhere strictly to this directive, and any violations will result in significant legal repercussions,” Ogunsakin stated. He also urged the residents of the Local Government Area to remain calm, abide by the law, and collaborate as the government implements effective measures to safeguard lives and property.
