Liverpool has officially announced that defender Jarell Quansah has made a permanent transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.
The German club will pay an initial fee of £30 million for the center-back, with the possibility of an additional £5 million in easily reachable bonuses.
Quansah joined Liverpool’s academy when he was just five years old and made his senior debut for the team against Newcastle United in August 2023. He had a great first season under Jürgen Klopp during the 2023-24 season, playing in 33 games across all competitions.
However, the England youth international, who was an important player in Lee Carsley’s winning team at this summer’s under-21 England Championship, he struggled for form last season, starting only four matches in the Premier League under Arne Slot.
Liverpool continues to rate Quansah highly and has therefore agreed a buy-back clause with Bayer Leverkusen at a pre-agreed fee.
Liverpool has been linked to several potential replacements for Quansah, with notable interest in Crystal Palace’s center-back Marc Guehi; however, reports indicate that Liverpool will only proceed if the perfect candidate emerges.
This summer, Liverpool has spent heavily in this transfer window, bringing in the Leverkusen duo of Florian Wirtz for a record fee of £100m and Jeremie Frimpong, as well as Hungary’s Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
