The Kebbi State Government has successfully recruited 2,000 teachers to improve the quality of education in the state. Dr. Halima Muhammad-Bande, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, made this announcement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi. As the Chairman of the Recruitment Committee, Muhammad-Bande provided insights during the presentation of appointment letters to the newly hired teachers on Friday. She noted that 391 teachers were selected in the initial phase, comprising individuals with Degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND), and Postgraduate qualifications, who will be assigned to post-basic schools throughout the state. The commissioner also indicated that a subsequent list of recruited teachers would be published soon, primarily featuring candidates with National Certificate in Education (NCE). She revealed that the Teacher Recruitment Committee had received 18,000 applications and had screened 4,000 candidates. Muhammad-Bande encouraged the newly appointed teachers to commit themselves to their roles and actively contribute to the advancement of education in Kebbi. “A teacher in Kebbi holds a significant position, as our governor, who values education, is also a teacher,” she remarked. “This marks the first phase of our teacher recruitment initiative, with more to follow shortly.” Muhammad Garba-Bena, Chairman of the Kebbi House Committee on Education, praised Governor Nasir Idris for his support, which enabled the successful execution of the recruitment process. “We are pleased that this initiative is taking place at a time when educators are prioritized. The recruitment process will continue until we have a sufficient number of qualified teachers to meet the educational needs of our schools. “I encourage those who have not been selected to remain patient and persistent in their pursuit of opportunities,” he stated thoughtfully. Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, shared words of encouragement with the newly appointed teachers, urging them to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their roles. He emphasized the importance of their contributions in substantially enhancing the quality of education not only in our state but also throughout the entire country, thereby shaping the future of countless students.
