Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah named Premier League Player of the Season

Mohamed Salah has won the Premier League player of the season on Saturday, recognizing his outstanding individual performance during a campaign where Liverpool secured their second Premier League title.

Salah netted 28 goals and provided 18 assists, leading the Anfield team to victory, with Arne Slot’s squad clinching the title with four matches remaining. Having previously won the award in 2017-18, Salah has now become only the fifth player to win it twice, after Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidić, and Kevin De Bruyne.

The 32-year-old Egyptian is set to win another Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in a season, as he is currently five goals ahead of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak with the final matchday coming up on Sunday. No player has ever achieved 46 goal involvements in a 38-game season, and Salah could break the record of 47 held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, who did this in a 42-game season, when Liverpool plays against Crystal Palace at Anfield. With six more assists than any other competitor, Salah is poised to become the first player to win the Golden Boot, Playmaker, and Player of the Season awards. Earlier this month, Salah also received the Football Writers’ Association men’s player of the year award for the third time earlier this month.
