The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has made a significant breakthrough by arresting a notorious socialite named Uadiale Christiana Jacob, widely known as Christy Gold. She is thought to be a key player in an international human trafficking ring that primarily operates in the Middle East, particularly centered in Dubai, UAE.
Christy Gold had been evading law enforcement for five years following her conviction. Her elusiveness came to an end on December 31, 2024, when she reentered Nigeria, landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to celebrate the New Year.
In a statement from NAPTIP’s Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, it was revealed that many of Gold’s associates, including Michael Nduka and Osas Wiseman, are still evading capture. These individuals were instrumental in recruiting victims for trafficking, particularly targeting underage girls for exploitation in Dubai.
The investigation into Gold’s activities dates back to March 2020, when the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) provided crucial information to NAPTIP about her illegal operations. Gold is known for belonging to a group that specifically preys on young Nigerian girls, luring them into trafficking and forced prostitution abroad.
In October 2020, NAPTIP successfully apprehended her in Benin City, Edo State, but she was released on bail. Unfortunately, while out on bail, she breached the terms and fled to Dubai. Following her numerous failures to appear in court, a judge issued an arrest warrant for her in November 2021.
Despite her efforts to evade justice, NAPTIP collaborated with various agencies, including INTERPOL and UAE Police, to track her down. Their diligent efforts bore fruit when she was finally captured on December 31, 2024.
Binta Adamu Bello, the Director General of NAPTIP, commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for their vital role in apprehending this fugitive. She stressed the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies in achieving this success.
Bello underscored that this arrest sends a powerful message to others involved in human trafficking: they cannot hide forever. NAPTIP is committed to continuing its work in 2025 to protect Nigerians from trafficking and exploitation, ensuring that those responsible for these heinous crimes face the appropriate consequences.
