NEWS FLASH: The Premier League Reveals Schedule for 2025–2026 Season With Significant Festive Period Changes

Table of Content

Beginning on Saturday, August 16, 2025, and ending on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the English Premier League (EPL) has formally revealed the dates for the 2025–2026 season.

In a statement issued on Friday, the league prioritized player well-being and addressed long-standing complaints by outlining significant adjustments to its schedule, especially during the typically busy festive period.

There won’t be any games on Christmas Eve, and for the first time, no two match rounds will occur within sixty hours of one another. This move is anticipated to be well received by both players and supporters. The changes are a part of the Premier League’s commitment to making sure players receive enough sleep throughout the busy holiday season, according to the announcement headed “Dates for 2025/26 Premier League Season Confirmed.”

“With no two rounds occurring within 60 hours of one another, the schedule continues to allow players more rest time during the festive match-round period,” the league said. This is consistent with pledges given to clubs to alleviate the crowded schedule for Christmas and New Year’s.

Season Highlights for 2025–2026

The season offers an evenly dispersed fixture calendar, with 33 weekends and five midweek rounds.

Start Date

After the 2024–2025 season ends, players will have 83 days to recover thanks to the August 16 start date.

End date

Before the FIFA 2026 World Cup, players will have plenty of time to prepare thanks to the May 24 deadline.

The Premier League’s attempts to preserve player welfare and keep a competitive edge are reflected in these tactical changes.
