Dr Oladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun for the 2027 election, has unveiled his governance blueprint, prioritising security and local government autonomy.

Adebutu spoke during a media parley with newsmen in Abeokuta on Monday.

The PDP governorship candidate noted that his administration would also prioritise agriculture, education and rural development, describing them as essential to delivering the dividends of democracy.

He said security would top his administration’s agenda, stressing that no meaningful development could take place without the protection of lives and property.

According to him, there is need to effectively fortify the security architecture of the state, saying that no nation can develop without adequate and well funded security measures.

Adebutu said he had personally assisted police formations with fuel, vehicle repairs and other logistics to enhance their operations.

The candidate added that he had invested about N20 million in solar-powered streetlights across several communities to improve public safety.

He noted that well-lit streets discouraged criminal activities and create safer environments for residents and businesses.

“Security is the first item on our agenda; because without security, nothing else can thrive. We cannot build a prosperous society when people live in fear.

“Where there is light, there is improved security. Criminal activities thrive in darkness while illuminated streets create safer environment for residents and businesses,” he said.

On local government administration, Adebutu called for full autonomy for councils to promote accountability and grassroots development.

The former lawmaker said excessive state control had weakened local governments and reduced their ability to provide essential services.

According to him, empowering local councils would strengthen institutions, improve infrastructure and enhance service delivery.

Adebutu also advocated greater investment in rural communities through improved roads, electricity, healthcare, education and security.

He said providing basic amenities in rural areas would reduce rural-urban migration and promote balanced development.

Adebutu explained that governance should be measured by its impact on citizens rather than personal recognition or political credit.

The governorship candidate stated that the PDP remained the only party that would take the masses to the promise land.

Also speaking, a senatorial candidate of the party, Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo, said she joined the party because she believed the party prioritised the welfare of the people.

Obasanjo, who is the PDP senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, described respect, integrity, and trust as essential qualities of leadership and governance.

Obasanjo expressed confidence in the PDP leadership in Ogun and pledged to support efforts towards the state’s development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the deputy governorship candidate of the party, Lateefat Kolapo-Sowunmi, the state party chairman, Abayomi Tella and other party leaders were present at the media parley.
