PDP condemns thugs’ attack on Edo LG Secretariat.

Table of Content

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko-Edo local government has raised significant concerns about a disturbance that occurred at the council secretariat in Igarra on December 27, 2024. The incident, allegedly involving individuals connected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was characterized by the party as an unfortunate display of unrest.

In a statement from the party’s secretary, Dennis Akande, it was noted that such actions are detrimental to the rule of law. Akande described how a group of individuals entered the council secretariat, disrupting operations and obstructing staff from fulfilling their duties. This disruption had a direct impact on the office of council chairman, Hon. Barr Tajudeen Alade Suleman, who was away on official business in Benin City during the event.

The statement detailed that the intruders forcibly entered the Chairman’s office, caused damage to property, and absconded with official documents and valuables before locking up the office. PDP chairman, Hon. Kayode Ogunnubi, condemned these actions as inconsistent with the principles upheld by the Nigerian constitution and called for a peaceful resolution to the situation.

The PDP further urged the APC leadership to take responsibility for maintaining order among their supporters. Additionally, the party appealed to security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The statement concluded by encouraging PDP members to remain calm and patient while authorities conduct their investigation, reinforcing the importance of maintaining peace and order within the community.
