The police in Akwa Ibom State have announced the arrest of two people suspected of supplying guns and ammunition to criminal groups in the Ikot Ekpene area. This news was shared by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfom John, during a press briefing held on Saturday in Uyo, the state capital.

According to DSP John, the arrests happened on Friday after the police received valuable information about the suspects. Acting quickly on this tip-off, the police detained the two individuals. During the search, they found a homemade revolver pistol, which raises serious concerns about their activities.

The police believe that these two men might be connected to a larger group involved in distributing weapons to various criminal gangs in and around Ikot Ekpene. They stressed their commitment to investigating further in order to break up this network and improve safety in the community.

The police spokesperson said that discreet investigation had commenced with a view to arresting other members of the criminal syndicate, adding that the command would ensure that all suspects connected with the crime are prosecuted.

She noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Baba Azare, reaffirms the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and cutting off supply channels of illegal arms fueling violent crimes across the State.

“The Command continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest Police formation,” she said.
