The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, has urged Nigerians to protect, promote and sustain their cultural heritage to foster national cohesion, peace and tolerance among Nigerians.
The speaker made this known on Sunday while hosting the Central Working Committee (CWC) for the 2027 Wakama Day celebration at his residence in Lafia.
Jatau, who was delighted by the visit, assured the committee of his support for the success of the event slated for January 2, 2027, at Aloce (Akpata) in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
He stressed the need for parents to teach their children their native languages.
“Let’s continue to speak our language with our children. We should continue to promote our culture.
“It is good for people to promote their culture. It is good for Wakama and other people to promote their culture.
“If you lose your culture, you have lost your identity.
“For your request, I have wholeheartedly accepted to be the Chief Fundraiser of the event and I will support the programme to succeed,” he assured.
The speaker called on the people of the state to continue to live in unity and peace irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
Earlier, the District Head of Wakama, Chief Adams Makka Nangba, who led the delegation, commended Jatau for his purposeful leadership.
He said the speaker was making the people of Wakama, his constituents and the entire state proud through his exemplary leadership style.
“We are here to appeal to you to serve as the Chief Fundraiser of Wakama Day.
“The committee has proposed January 2, 2027, for the event at 11 a.m. at RCM School, Aloce (Akpata),” he said.
The district head informed the speaker that the mandate of the committee was to organise a befitting Wakama Day to promote unity, peace and revive Wakama culture.
On his part, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Arigu Auta, appreciated the speaker for accepting to serve as the Chief Fundraiser of the event.
Auta prayed for God’s guidance, protection and blessings for the speaker.
“On behalf of the people of Wakama community, we appreciate you for accepting to be the Chief Fundraiser of the occasion.
“We pray and wish you well in your future endeavours,” he said.
