Jandor dumps Lagos PDP

The 2023 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Dr. Olajide Adediran, also known as JANDOR, has announced his resignation from the party, indicating that he will reveal his future plans in a few months.

He stated that he is leaving the party alongside his supporters from all 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas within the state.

Adediran made this announcement during a press conference held in Ikeja on Monday.

He noted that while his candidacy received significant backing from grassroots PDP members in 2023, he felt unsupported by the party’s leadership throughout the electoral process. He remarked, “We faced six separate attacks during the campaign, yet neither the State Chairman nor any party leader condemned these incidents.

Just days before the election, prominent party figures in Lagos, including Chief Olabode George, who had previously campaigned against the PDP’s presidential candidate, publicly endorsed the gubernatorial candidate of a rival party and urged Lagosians not to vote for the party he claimed to represent as a member of the Board of Trustees.” Furthermore, on the eve of the election, the State Chairman, Mr. Philip Aivoji, issued a misleading statement across all PDP platforms, referencing a non-existent alliance and misleadingly informing the public that we had withdrawn from the election.

He added ” A few days after the election, it is of public knowledge that the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, while justifying the outcome of the election on the media, revealed to Lagosians and Nigerians alike that the PDP couldn’t have won the election because most of the leaders of the party worked against us. He mentioned names of leaders that left the party to work for them, including the presidential campaign committee chairman in the state, Mr Adedeji Doherty. Till today, none of the party leaders he mentioned have rebutted his claims, rather they still have the audacity and effrontery to continue to parade themselves as party leaders”.

He said that after the election, complaints were made to the party at the national level believing that appropriate sanctions would be applied to all those who played anti-party roles but that nothing was done than to appoint Chief Bode George as Vice Chairman of a disciplinary committee.

Adediran added ” We have waited this long, to see if there will be some sort of respite, but what we see even at the top is that the same set of leaders that campaigned and worked openly against the party are the ones holding the aces today. How do we trust the same people again in the next election cycle and how do we forgive those who are not sorry for their misdeeds?”.
