The Presidency on Monday replied criticism by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of deliberately ignoring the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration while painting an unfair picture of the country’s current state.
Obi in an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, criticised the Tinubu administration and dismissed its much-hyped Renewed Hope Agenda as nothing more than “renewed hopelessness.”
According to him, the government’s policies and programmes have failed to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians, but pushing more citizens into poverty and deepening the country’s economic woes.
However, the Presidency while reacting to this said the former Anambra governor’s viewpoint is driven more by politics than facts.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, accused Obi of deliberately overlooking several reforms and intervention programmes introduced by the administration since assuming office.
He said the federal government’s impact can be seen across communities nationwide, stressing that Obi has chosen to ignore those developments because they do not fit his political narrative.
Onanuga insisted that the Tinubu administration has rolled out many projects and policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda, all aimed at improving the economy, expanding opportunities and delivering long-term development across Nigeria.
He added that members of the Presidential Communications Team recently toured various parts of the country to assess government projects firsthand, interact with residents and relay feedback directly to the Presidency.
Onanuga said that the former governor was apparently being influenced by what he described as the excitement surrounding his political movement.
“Peter Obi needs to get off the high of his rabid movement,” he wrote.
He said that the administration possesses extensive documentation detailing what he described as Nigeria’s economic recovery under President Tinubu, insisting that there was ample evidence of programmes already making tangible impacts across the country.
According to him, such initiatives include the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), among several other programmes designed to directly improve the lives of Nigerians.
He said government has compiled comprehensive reports documenting reforms, infrastructure projects and social intervention programmes being implemented across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
